You are buying a Gov-Lock repair kit. This is a do-it-yourself kit that consists of good used parts. The early (steel) setup is shown in the picture.
You get the following with this kit:
- Good Fuse Disc
- Fuse Disc Eared Plate
- Good Governor
- Good Ramp Plate
- Fuse Disc Spring
The GM Gov-Lock differential design was modified in mid-1986 to include a load-limiting feature to reduce the chance of breaking an axle shaft under abusive driving conditions. The number of tangs on the fuse disc in the left-hand clutch pack was reduced allowing these tangs to shear in the event of a high-torque engagement of the differential locking mechanism. If this happens, your Gov-Lock will no longer function as a locker and typically these parts will have to be replaced.
Check your differential carefully before ordering, this will fit all the 8 1/2 28 and 30 spline G80’s and the 8 5/8 differentials. You will have to re-use your original latching governor.
